When does the heather bloom in Ede?
The heather in Ede blooms from mid-August to mid-September. This is also the best time to enjoy the purple heathland in Ede.
What is heather?
Heather is a collective term for various types of shrubs from the heather family. In Ede, alongside Scotch heather and bell heather, we also find the rarer crowberry heather and bog rosemary.
Scotch Heather
The heather likes to grow on dry, sandy soils. It can withstand severe drought, but does not like shade. The flowers bloom from mid-July to mid-September and are light to dark purple.
Bell Heather
In the wet heathland areas (including the Deelense Veld [Deelense Field]), bell heather is most common. This heather species blooms as early as June and has spherical lilac-coloured flowers.
Visit the website of The Hoge Veluwe National Park for more information about the heath.
